Home Improvement

Lots of home maintenance work going on right now. With some help from my father and some help from Leah, I got a ceiling fan & light installed in our master bedroom. Talk about complicated work; I had to feed new electric wire down the wall from the attic to the existing light switch (which did nothing) and then install and hook up a receptacle box in the middle of the bedroom.

We're also tearing down wall paper in the foyer, removing chair rails in the dining room and prepping the whole area for a new paint job. On top of that, Leah's painting the railings outside on the front steps and the garage trim. Plus, we're looking at getting new front doors and all the insulation in our attic replaced. Small jobs, big jobs... lots of money... I think I need a second job.

Germany pics online

Well, I finally managed to get some digital pictures of our trip to Germany up onto our website (you'll find them in the "Thoughts and Experiences" section). Unfortunately, I'm not too happy with the quality; I took them from the digital video of our MiniDV camcorder and the camcorder only allows 1 megapixel photos. However, it was faster doing this then manually scanning in some of the print pictures from our regular cameras. Ah well, live and learn (this just means I need a digital camera... I just need to convince Leah of it... ).

shopping in Montreal

This past weekend, Leah and I spent the day (Saturday) in Montreal. We went to visit a friend and his wife (Philippe and Solange) who had moved there from Toronto. Leah got her first taste of Ste-Catherine Street... I know she's going to want to return some time soon. Ah well...

Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This is a really cool website: Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia. It has crosslinked articles and lots of interesting information; if you're bored and have internet access, this is a nice place to go to read and learn stuff.

Camping in rain & sun

We spent the August long weekend at the Quebec provincial park called Plaisance (http://www.sepaq.com/Plaisance); it's about an hour East of Ottawa along the Ottawa River. We had continuous rain for the first half of the weekend (Friday night and all day Saturday), but the sun came out for Sunday and Monday. During the rain, our group of 23 hung out in a cabin located at the group site; during the sun, we went on a canoe trip for a few hours (and I got a sunburn on my arms, Leah got one on her back). Overall, it was a nice weekend except for the rain and the moquitoes.
